The Dolomieu Trail - a wonderful hike in Sterzing-Ratschings-Gossensass
Hiking in the Sterzing-Ratschings-Gossensass area along historic paths

The 23 km long trail leads through flowering meadows and alpine pastures past rustic alpine huts. It owes its name to the typical Dolomite limestone rock found along the trail.

Its name dates back to the 18th century, so we can say that the Dolomieu Path is a "historical" route. The trail, also known as the 6 mountain pastures trail, starts at Rosskopf/Monte Cavallo near Sterzing/Vipiteno and leads through six beautiful mountain pastures that invite you to take a pleasant break. And remember to try the grey cheese, a speciality of the area! After the break you continue on your way admiring the wonderful morphology, nature, flora and fauna of the Sterzing/Vipiteno hiking area. There are many things to discover in the Pflerschtal/Val di Fleres. The exact route leads from the top station of the Rosskopf/Monte Cavallo cable car on the left to the Kuhalm hut and the Ochsenalm hut below the Telfer Weissen/Cime Bianche di Telves (2588 m). From here you return and pass the "Kastellacke" biotope to the "Vallminger Almen" pastures. The trail continues towards Ladurns, from where there is a magnificent view of the Weißwandspitze/Parete Bianca and the Tribulaun Massif. From the Ladurnerhütte hut, the trail winds its way through a cool forest in serpentine fashion towards the Allrissalm hut and on to the Furtalm hut in the Pflerer Talschluss/Alta Val di Fleres. The path and the length of the hike can be chosen as required. The route can be shortened using the ski lifts.
